Spring/Summer/Fall 2008
TEAM GFR Half-Marathon/Marathon Training:
It's Signup Time!
SIGNUP DATES FOR SPRING/SUMMER/FALL SESSION: APR 27 - MAY 17
We are gearing up for the 2nd half of our training year. Late April, early May is the time to begin your preparation for mid-summer to late-fall 2008 half marathons and marathons. Over 100 people meet every Saturday morning at GFR. We have pace groups and training levels for the beginner to competitive level and everyone in between.
Got the Portland Marathon on your mind?
Dating back to 1994, the GFR training program has successfully trained over 1000 people for the Portland Marathon. Maybe 2008 is the year to include you!
Does the marathon sound too long and seem like too much of a time commitment right now? There are a series of half-marathons that you could do between July and November instead. Nationwide, the half-marathon has become the most popular race distance. There are lots of options. Successfully completing a half-marathon will put you halfway to your marathon goal. We'll get you ready and prepared. Spend your early Saturday mornings running from GFR and have something to brag about at the end of 2008!
I'm Not Sure - When is the Real Deadline?
If the Portland Marathon is your goal, you will need to signup [or renew] by Saturday, May 17th.
The Spring/Summer/Fall Session offers the following benefits:
Updated training plans for over 55 different half-marathons and marathons
Optional Summer "Field Trips" for out of town trail runs
Insightful and motivating topics in the GFR Training Forum.
Forum postings specific to each training level: Beginner, Experienced, Advanced, and Competitor
Links to "supplemental" training materials from a variety of resources
Lots of great people to hang out with
MORE FUN !
THE SATURDAY MORNING RUNS
The next few Saturdays are social runs. Come on by and try things out. Doors open at 6:45AM and run starts at 7:00AM from Gallagher Fitness Resources - 135 Commercial St NE. Come prepared to run 3-6 miles (depending on your group and experience level). Typically there are over 100 runners.
This Saturday, May 3rd will be different. The numbers will be a bit scarce because many of our participants from the Winter/Spring 2008 Session will be taking the morning off in preparation for the Eugene Half-Marathon and Eugene Marathon on Sunday, May 4th. Join us in sending out a big GOOD LUCK and BEST WISHES for a successful morning in Eugene.
